Our clients in Throcking, Nr Buntingford commissioned us to design, make & fit a new kitchen for the barn they were in the process of converting. As Oak beams were being lovingly restored it cried out to be the wood of choice. By mixing in a painted island and wall units it broke up the Oak and gave a modern twist to a very classic traditional design.
The use of Farrow & Ball Blue Gray on the painted units gave a fresh feel & blended in well.
Inframe square edge shaker doors were used to keep detailing down to a minimum but by using soft close concealed hinges the traditional look was still obtained but still having the modern functionality required by a young family.,
A large traditional ceramic butler sink by Villeroy & Boch with a Franke Swiss Pro spray tap keeps in with the shaker feel whilst being very practical.
Wide
pan drawers provide ample storage which is easily accessible. The
top drawer is ideal for cutlery/utensils so always to hand but
neatly stored away.
Lift up glazed wall units provide an area for display in a modern way & the addition of a stainless steel tambour door unit makes for a great way to hide away toasters etc. The contrast of the Oak against the Steel works really well .
The addition of an Oak breakfast bar provides sociable seating when preparing meals without taking up too much space. As the hob is located on the island the bar needs to be raised but this adds another level & texture so works well and makes an impact visually.
To create a link into the adjoining lounge, a walnut sideboard was designed to house 2 wine coolers & provide yet more storage. A real Wow factor and a stunning addition to the room !
The client opted for a BBQ grill as well as a hob so extraction was very important here. The use of a Westin Built in Ceiling extractor provided the efficient extraction required without blocking the view into the garden from any angle. The come in stainless steel, mirrored or can be painted but the stainless steel works well here as keeps a theme running with the tambour & fridge.
Open end
shelves on the island provide easily accessible storage space but
also add an element of interest. By keeping these in Oak it
balances out the breakfast bar. Rounded corners on the Snow Quartz
worktop really finish it off and by picking a light worktop
keep the room fresh & modern..
